Turkish delight to Retire

I am sure I am not the only fan sad to hear that Tugay has decided to retire. He has been a fantastic servant to the club and has scored some cracking goals along the way.  He is a real character and has long been a fans favourite.

I am sure many of you on facebook know that there is a campaign to get Tugay a testimonial even though he has not been at the club for 10 years. Please support this cause!

Also we have been contacted by some Turkish fans who are planning on attending the final home game of the season at Ewood. They are hoping to create a party atmosphere and will be  bringing banners and wearing t shirts to show their feelings for Tugay. Be sure to look out for them and say hello. They are being very proactive and have already been featured in the Lancashire Telegraph. They are hoping to get the Turkish press involved.  I hope they have a great day out.

RELEGATION

Spent a depressing day at Stoke on Saturday, I am seriously starting to wonder if we will stay up. We are lacking up front and in midfield. The players seemed to think that being there was enough to get us a point. I hope that Big Sam can get us out of this mess. Don't fancy dropping down a league again and don't think we will bounce straight back.

On a happier note, things seem to be working ok now so will put some pictures up from the presentation day in the next week.

Day Out at Ewood

Last Saturday many members went to Ewood for the West Ham game and before hand were lucky enough to attend a Q and A session with John Williams. These are a great chance to get a real insight into what goes on at the club. As ever John was very honest and spent an entertaining and informative 40 minutes or so answering questions from the floor.

After the match there was the presentation of the player of the year award for 2007/8 which was given to Roque Santa Cruz by Margaret Reid. A special award to Tugay for his contribution to the club was presented by Sarah Goldsack.

Thanks to Roger Williams the LB chairman for organising the day and also to Ken Beamish at Rovers for his help as well. Check out the website again next week for photos.

Transfer News

Not much going on at Rovers so far although all the excitement usually happens in the last few hours of the last day of the window.

Man City though are set to change all that, the deal with Kaka looks like it could go ahead. It is amazing to think that when we bought Shearer all those years ago there was such an outcry about the transfer deal! Even the £15 million we got when we sold him does not compare to the money being thrown around these days. The credit crunch has not hit the blue part of Manchester just yet!

Back to Rovers, I am hoping we can hold on to Santa for now at least. Will be interesting to see if Givet features at the weekend. Lets wait and see what Big Sam can do before the window closes.

BIG SAM REPLACES INCE

I have never hidden the fact that Ince was not (in my opinion) the man for the job. I gave him a fair chance and reports sounded promising but I got fed up of hearing that we had played well but lost. I would rather (at the moment) play rubbish and get a win. I also felt his body language on the side lines was not very positive and he had some lame excuses when we lost (yet again).

I know we are not a sacking club and Rovers have had some stick this week for not giving him a fair chance but when do you draw the line? We cannot afford to drop a division and if we were to do so, I think we would not bounce back this time. JW did what he had to do for the good of the club. I hope that one day Ince will be a top flight manager and wish him the best.

Now Rovers need to look ahead and think of what Sam can bring to the club, he is a dab hand with cheap deals in the transfer market and got 'unfashionable' Bolton into Europe. Only time will tell what he can achieve with Rovers but I for one will be happy with staying in the Premier league and will see what happens from there!

Remember we have our Facebook page if you want to chat about the goings on at the club - go to the links page to find it!!

So Far, so.....?

So the season is up and running and so far I don't think we are doing too badly. The West Ham game was disappointing but I never expect anything else from this fixture. We could do with leaking less goals but overall I think we are doing ok and would give us 6 out of 10.  At least we are doing better than Spurs, bet Bentley is so glad he joined them.

Will be interesting to see what happens in January, Hughes has made it clear that with all his millions to spend it is a certain Rovers player at the top of his shopping list. Depending on who you believe it sounds like Santa would like to make the short journey to City to join his ex manager. Guess we will have to wait to January and see what happens.  Santa obviously does not know that he was last seasons London Branch player of the year, as I am sure he would not want to leave Rovers without collecting this prestigious award!!

Rovers Ladies

We have had the following email

Hi

Rovers Ladies are currently scheduled to play Arsenal Ladies at Boreham Wood
in the opening game of the new season.  Rovers Ladies don't get many
supporters(especially away) and I would be grateful if you could spread the
word and get as many fans down to Arsenal as possible.  I know that the
girls would really appreciate seeing Rovers shirts in the crowd at Arsenal.

Best regards

Colin

If you need more details check out the official Rovers site or email us and we will get in touch with Colin for more details.

Facebook

Don't forget that if you want to chat all things Rovers we have our own Facebook page. Go to the links page to find it!

Robinson

So we wave goodbye to Brad and say hello to Robinson.  Not sure what to make of this one - was Brad greedy or were Rovers silly to not offer him what he wanted? Lets hope Paul Robinson can re find his form that made him England's No.1.

Player of the year 07/08

PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2008

Congratulations to Santa Cruz who was voted the London Branch player of the year for season 2007/2008. Hopefully he will still be a Rovers player next season and will be available to collect his trophy. More details with regards any presentation will be published at a later date.

I am sure that we were all sad to see Sparky leave, however what is done is done and now we must move on.

I am sure you will all join us in welcoming Paul Ince to Ewood, and I am sure that we will all be hoping that he is a massive success.

The big news today is the launch of our new website

The big news today is the launch of our new website!! It might take a while, but we hope that before too long this site will not only be a place used to ‘get the name out there’ and let everybody know about the London Branch but also might prove to be a site we can also use as a focal point for the branch.
